Council President Richard Balbier was sworn in as the new Mayor of Brooklyn on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Mayor Balbier will serve the remainder of the term that was left vacant which expires on December 31, 2011.
     Mayor Richard Balbier brings to the community years of experience as he served as a police officer in the City of Brooklyn for 33 years and is known as a man who gets things done.
     "He has three decades of making good decisions," said Brooklyn Police Sgt. David Miller, who served on the police force with the new mayor for years. "He’s very well respected in the community."
     The number 1 priority for Mayor Balbier is to deal with the current financial situation that is affecting the City of Brooklyn. His goal is to move the City in the direction of having more money coming in than going out.
