Closures & Delays

 

Public Meetings­ - Most public meetings have been canceled until further notice. City Council’s regular meetings will continue, although for the foreseeable future they will not be in city hall and will be conducted by remote attendance of Councilmembers, under the authority of Ordinance 2020-16, adopted March 16, 2020. Please see the City’s “Public Notices” page by scrolling below or clicking here (http://www.brooklynohio.gov/en-US/Public-Notice.aspx) for details on how to view these Council and other meetings live and submit questions and comments in advance. Agendas and docket items may be viewed here: https://go.boarddocs.com/oh/brookoh/Board.nsf/Public. Please remember that all Council meetings are posted to the city’s YouTube channel (available at www.brooklynohio.gov) and prior meetings are viewable on certain cable networks.

 

Senior Community Center – The building is closed until at least April 30, 2020 for all activities and rentals. Senior Center staff can be contacted at (216) 635-4222 or kfratto@brooklynohio.gov

 

Recreation Center – The building will be closed until at least April 30, 2020. All programs are canceled or postponed until further notice. Patrons may still contract staff at (216) 351-5334 or direct questions by email to jabbruzzese@brooklynohio.gov.  Detailed information on the Recreation Closures can be found at http://www.brooklynohio.gov/en-US/recreation-department.aspx.

 

City Hall -  The building will be open by appointment only, except for public meetings (pending further action by City Council as detailed above). The city’s main phone number is (216) 351-2133 and staff can be reached for specific questions or assistance.

 

Service Department – The building and premise will be open by appointment only. Daily trash pick-up will remain the same, but all special pick-ups and drop offs will be suspended until further notice.  Extra items can be put in the regular automated container if they fit inside.  Call (216) 635-4232 with questions.

 

Police Department – The window at the Police Department will remain open normal hours. Please contact 911 in case of an emergency or 216-749-1234 if it is non-emergency related matter.


Fire Department –   The Fire Department will continue responding to calls as usual, but community room is closed until further notice.

 

Mayor’s Court – Any cases scheduled for court this month have been postponed until April or May and notifications have been sent out.

 

These changes are after careful consideration and reviewing updates from the Governor, Board of Health and Centers for Disease Control. The health of our residents and employees remains our upmost priority.

 

Notification System for Updates

 

We will utilize the City website (www.brooklynohio.gov) and the City’s social media accounts to provide continued updates. The city will also utilize our Cuyahoga County Ready Notify System, MySeniorCenter alerts, and Sportsman alerts to pass on information as things progress.

The Senior Resource Fair scheduled for March 27, 2020 has been CANCELLED.

Shred-It Program for Seniors The Senior Community Center is providing a shred-it service to our seniors who do not have their own shredder. You may bring in your documents and we will put it in a locked console. North Coast Shredding Services removes the secure Blue Can containing confidential documents from the locked console. Behind a locked security screen, North Coast Shredding Services empties the contents of the "Blue Bin" into a special hopper. Highly efficient cross shred knives security shred all confidential documents into fine confetti, on site in our mobile shredding trucks.

Snow Removal

Snow Removal Sign ups.  Cost is $40.00. 

New Applicants

New Applicant sign-ups.  Eligibility requirements are:
  • You must be the owner of the single family home
  • Property tax will be verified
  • You must be living in the residence year round
  • Everyone living in the home must be 65 years of age (driver's license or state ID must be provided)
  • Income guidelines for new applicants are as follows:
    • 1 person - $36,300
    • 2 persons - $41,500
    • 3 persons - $46,650


After September 29 there will be a late charge of $15.00, per Ordinance #2000-52, for a total of $55.00. If you are unable to come in during sign-up week due to illness or vacation, you may call the Senior Center before the end of sign-up week to make alternative arrangements for a late sign-up or a house call for homebound seniors (in doing so, there will be no late fee).

If you are ineligible to be on the program, you may call the Center to get names of private contractors.

Corner Store 

Corner Store Be sure to stop by our Corner Store at the Brooklyn Senior Center where you can find seasonal wreaths and floral arrangements, ceramics, pins, towels, table favors and other decorative items all at a great price! Everyone is welcome!

Health & Wellness

Blood Pressure Readings

Brooklyn Paramedics are scheduled at the Senior Center for Blood Pressure readings the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month between 10:00am - 11:00am. Emergency calls take precedence!

Transportation

The Brooklyn Senior Center provides door-to-door transportation service to shopping and medical appointments for Brooklyn residents who are 55 years of age or older and are unable to drive. Transportation is also available for the handicapped and disabled.

Transportation is provided Monday thru Friday from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Please call the Brooklyn Senior Center at 216.635.4222 Monday thru Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm for more information and to make a reservation.

Weekly Luncheons

Tuesday's Soup & Sandwich Day

  • The Brooklyn Senior-Community Center holds weekly soup and sandwich days just before our bingo every Tuesday.
  • The cost of the soup and sandwich is $3.50.
  • Tickets must be purchased in advance.
  • Soup and Sandwich is served between 11:00am and 12:00pm.

Thursday Luncheons

  • The Brooklyn Senior-Community Center holds weekly luncheons which include a featured speaker and lunch.
  • The cost of the luncheon is $6.00.
  • Lunch is served at 11:30am.
  • Tickets must be purchased no later than the Friday before the luncheon date.
  • You may order a lunch for takeout, however, they cannot be picked up before 12:30pm.
  • There are no refunds.
